My Story

Kayla Jane is sixteen, smart, interesting, beautiful and amazingly brave. Diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis (CF) when she was eighteen months old, Kayla and her parents have bravely faced the day to day realities of CF. Most recently Kayla has suffered increased medical distress caused by her failing liver. In February of 2008 due to her sudden and significant decline it was medically determined that Kayla must have a liver transplant within six months.

Up until recently, this wonderful young woman has participated in many of the same life experiences as other children. She has attended local schools in her hometown of Ipswich, Massachusetts. She used to take dance and music lessons. Kayla was a determined soccer player, an excellent skier and an avid swimmer. These are activities that became very difficult or impossible when her liver began to fail.

Kayla looks forward to her sophomore year at Ipswich High School and is encouraged at the possibility of returning to these activities she misses so much.

This web site has been set up to share Kayla’s story, to help keep friends, family and community informed about Kayla’s progress and to provide information about upcoming fundraising events. The Committee is raising funds to give Paul, Jan and Kayla some financial assistance to cover the astronomical costs associated with the upcoming procedures. These funds will be used to help cover hospital and home health care expenses not covered by health insurance as well as other anticipated (medication co-pays) and unanticipated expenses.

Thank you for visiting the site and reading Kayla’s story.

Kayla and her family also thank you also for all your thoughts and prayers.
